God’s Angel to Prepare the Way 20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.  21 Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him.  22 If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.  23 My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.  24 Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.  25 Worship the  Lord  your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you ,  26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span. 27 “I...

The Ten Commandments 1 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the  Lord  your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before  me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.  5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the  Lord  your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,  6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the  Lord  your God, for the  Lord  will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,  10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the  Lord  your God. On it you shall not d...

Israel At Mount Sinai 1 On the first day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt—on that very day—they came to the Desert of Sinai.  2 After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. 3 Then Moses went up to God, and the  Lord  called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel:  4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.  5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,  6 you  will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” 7 So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the  Lord  ha...

The Song of Moses and Miriam 1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the  Lord : “I will sing to the  Lord , for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea. 2 “The  Lord  is my strength and my defense ; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. 3 The  Lord  is a warrior; the  Lord  is his name. 4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh’s officers are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone. 6 Your right hand,  Lord , was majestic in power. Your right hand,  Lord , shattered the enemy. 7 “In the greatness of your majesty you threw down those who opposed you. You unleashed your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble. 8 By the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood up like a wall; the deep waters congeal...
