  Wickedness in the World 1 When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,  2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.  3 Then the  Lord  said, “My Spirit will not contend with  humans forever, for they are mortal ; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. 5 The  Lord  saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.  6 The  Lord  regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.  7 So the  Lord  said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move a

                                                                                       Adam and Eve 4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the  Lord  God made the earth and the heavens. 5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth  and no plant had yet sprung up, for the  Lord  God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,  6 but streams  came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.  7 Then the  Lord  God formed a man  from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. 8 Now the  Lord  God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.  9 The  Lord  God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. The Beginning 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.  5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. 6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.”  7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it.
